IT Domain Architect

Context

A major player in the Belgian energy sector is looking for an experienced IT Domain Architect to strengthen its IT Architecture team and take ownership of the Asset business domain.

The role focuses on ensuring that the Asset domain IT landscape remains coherent, secure, resilient, operable and future-proof while supporting reliable electricity grid operations. The Domain Architect will act as a bridge between business strategy and IT execution, translating business capabilities and operational requirements into scalable architectural roadmaps and technical blueprints.

The position operates in a critical-infrastructure environment where architecture must balance operational reliability, regulatory compliance, cybersecurity, cost, innovation and long-term maintainability.

Responsibilities

Partner with Business Architecture to translate business capabilities into actionable IT roadmaps.
Convert complex business processes and requirements into detailed IT architecture blueprints.
Define and maintain domain-specific architectural principles and standards.
Ensure alignment with enterprise, group and local architecture principles and reference architectures.
Present and defend architecture proposals before the Architectural Review Board.
Document key architectural decisions through Architectural Decision Records.
Prevent architectural drift and unmanaged technical debt.
Monitor domain-level SLA and OLA performance and identify architectural risks.
Maintain the Asset domain application and platform portfolio within the Enterprise Architecture Repository.
Perform portfolio assessments using methodologies such as Gartner TIME and 6R.
Identify application and platform reuse opportunities to reduce complexity, technical debt and operating costs.
Collaborate with Solution Architects to ensure solutions remain viable throughout their build, run, evolve and retire lifecycle.
Conduct architectural trade-off analyses covering cost, risk, complexity and time to value.
Perform peer reviews of Solution Architecture deliverables.
Develop and maintain long-term Asset domain architecture roadmaps.
Advise senior stakeholders on architectural implications of Asset strategy decisions.
Collaborate with Data and Solution Architects on asset data models, integration patterns and data ownership.
Ensure interoperability between enterprise systems, operational systems and analytics platforms.
Support semantic consistency and data quality across the Asset domain.
Collaborate with security and compliance stakeholders to embed cybersecurity, resilience, availability and compliance requirements into architectures.
Define architectural measures supporting business continuity and disaster recovery.

Technical skills

Must have

Strong professional experience in IT Architecture, preferably at Domain or Enterprise Architecture level.
Deep knowledge of TOGAF.
Strong experience with ArchiMate.
Strong background in Energy & Utilities, Asset Management, Infrastructure or comparable operational environments.
Understanding of IT/OT integration and operational technology constraints.
Experience working with business-critical or safety-critical systems.
Strong understanding of architecture governance and architectural decision-making.
Ability to translate business capabilities and processes into IT architecture roadmaps and blueprints.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills across executive, business and technical audiences.
Ability to evaluate architectural trade-offs involving cost, risk, complexity and time to value.
Understanding of security, availability, resilience, regulatory compliance and operational risk.
Native-level proficiency in Dutch, French or German.
Professional proficiency in English.
Ability to work on site approximately 2 days per week in Brussels.

Should have

Experience with Domain-Driven Design.
Experience with Event Storming.
Experience with Agile Architecture practices.
Familiarity with ATAM – Architecture Tradeoff Analysis Method.
Experience using Gartner TIME for application portfolio assessment.
Experience with application and platform portfolio management.
Experience defining or maintaining domain architecture roadmaps.
Experience working with Enterprise, Solution, Security, Platform, Information and Data Architects.
Experience presenting architecture proposals to an Architecture Review Board.
Experience documenting decisions through Architectural Decision Records.
Understanding of business continuity and disaster recovery architecture.

Nice to have

Knowledge of one or more additional Belgian national languages.
Experience with the 6R application rationalization framework.
Previous experience within a Transmission System Operator or comparable critical-infrastructure organization.
Experience with enterprise architecture repositories.
Experience supporting large-scale energy-transition or infrastructure-transformation programs.
