Data Modeler

Context

The Data Modeler will translate complex business data into structured and usable logical data models aligned with the defined data architecture. The role supports enterprise information management, business intelligence, reporting, machine learning, and data science initiatives. This position also covers the analysis of reporting data needs, the design and maintenance of Data Vault and Data Marts, and close collaboration with architects, engineers, and delivery stakeholders to ensure scalable, secure, and high-quality data solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze reporting data needs, including required data, business rules, transformation rules, and source system storage logic.
  • Perform data profiling and review or propose SQL statements for use within the EDW model.
  • Analyze business requirements related to data model needs.
  • Gather data model requirements and process knowledge from stakeholders.
  • Model data to match end-user and reporting needs.
  • Design, create, document, and maintain logical data models.
  • Collaborate with Data Architects and Database Engineers to build optimal data structures.
  • Create and maintain data maps and system interrelationship diagrams.
  • Design usable data solutions including Data Vault and Data Marts.
  • Test data models for quality, coherence, performance, and alignment with business requirements.
  • Resolve issues impacting data models and ensure their ongoing integrity and maintenance.
  • Ensure data security management for Data Vault, Data Marts, and supporting IT infrastructure.
  • Deliver documented, scalable, maintainable, performant, and high-quality solutions.
  • Handle assigned deliveries end-to-end, from requirement alignment to sprint review demonstration.
  • Document requirements, prepare estimates and planning, and follow up on delivery execution.
  • Communicate delivery progress and impediments to the Team Coordinator, Project Manager, and Demand Manager.
  • Ensure deliverables are completed within agreed estimate, scope, and timeline.
  • Identify and propose enhancements to data modeling standards, processes, tools, and best practices.
  • Support implementation of improvement actions and participate in lessons learned meetings.
  • Provide support for client requests, incidents, and problems by analyzing needs, proposing solutions, implementing fixes, and ensuring after-service follow-up.

Technical skills

Must have

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of Data Modeling principles and methods, including conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
  • Strong knowledge of Data Vault and Dimensional Modelling.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL databases (DDL).
  • Strong knowledge of SQL querying and query optimization.
  • Practical experience with databases and business intelligence.
  • Experience with data analysis and modelling tools, especially IBM Data Architect.
  • Experience with SQL and/or PL/SQL.
  • Experience with relational databases, especially IBM DB2 LUW.
  • Experience with data warehouse appliances, especially Netezza.
  • Familiarity with Atlassian Suite tools: JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage simultaneous tasks with limited supervision.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong understanding of business requirements.
  • Customer satisfaction-oriented mindset.
  • Respect for change management procedures and internal processes.
  • Knowledge of Agile principles.
  • Higher education degree (Bachelor/Master), preferably in Science or Informatics, or equivalent experience.
  • Bilingual French/Dutch with active English.
  • Availability for minimum 2 days onsite presence, mandatory and non-negotiable.

  • Knowledge of NoSQL databases.
  • Knowledge of Hadoop ecosystem components such as HDFS, Spark, HBase, Hive, Sqoop.
  • Knowledge of Big Data.
  • Knowledge of Data Science, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence.
  • Knowledge of data reporting tools, especially Tableau.
