Data Engineer

Context

Within a large-scale modernization and digital transformation program, a leading European energy infrastructure organization is strengthening its data & analytics capabilities. The mission focuses on supporting the evolution of data platforms that enable core business processes such as contracting, flow planning, invoicing, and data publication. The role sits at the intersection of an established on-premise Microsoft BI stack and a strategic migration toward a modern Azure Data & Analytics environment, in close collaboration with enterprise-wide data initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain the central Data Warehouse supporting key business processes

  • Analyze functional and technical requirements to design robust database and dimensional models

  • Build, optimize, and maintain high-performance ETL pipelines using Microsoft BI technologies

  • Develop semantic data models using SSAS and Power BI

  • Create, maintain, and optimize reports using SSRS

  • Participate in agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, reviews, and delivery

  • Prepare and execute releases within a governed deployment framework

  • Perform technical testing, debugging, and peer code reviews

  • Support end-users by explaining data lineage and transformation logic

  • Collaborate closely with peers, technical leads, and infrastructure teams to improve solutions and resolve technical issues

Technical skills

Must have

  • Deep knowledge of Ralph Kimball data warehousing concepts

  • Proven experience in an agile Business Intelligence development environment

  • Strong knowledge of relational databases with solid data analysis and querying skills

  • Fluent English, both spoken and written

  • Strong team player with a goal-oriented and collaborative mindset

Should have

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server data warehouses

  • Practical knowledge of SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS

  • Experience with semantic modeling and reporting using Power BI

Nice to have

  • Experience with Azure analytics services (Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse, Azure Analysis Services)

  • Experience working in governed environments using Git, branching strategies, and Microsoft DevOps pipelines

  • Background knowledge of the energy sector

  • Experience providing end-user support

  • Fluent spoken Dutch and/or French
