Java Software Engineer

Context

The consultant will join the development of a next-generation digital platform, contributing to the design, development, and evolution of its backend foundations. Working closely with the Digital Platform Architect, the role focuses on building scalable, secure, and maintainable APIs, integration services, and Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) capabilities. The mission includes supporting the integration layer between digital channels, enterprise systems, and partner ecosystems, while contributing to proof-of-concepts, architecture implementation, and platform delivery.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain platform APIs, backend services, and integration components.
Build scalable and maintainable backend services supporting multiple digital channels.
Contribute to the evolution of the platform integration layer.
Develop reusable backend capabilities for business domains and partner integrations.
Ensure consistency, reliability, and quality across platform services and APIs.
Implement integration patterns aligned with the platform architecture.
Contribute to API lifecycle management and versioning strategies.
Ensure backend services are secure, scalable, and resilient.
Apply software engineering best practices and coding standards.
Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and architecture design.
Implement automated testing strategies and quality controls.
Support troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with the Digital Platform Architect and Mobile Engineers.
Participate in PoCs, architecture spikes, and MVP development.
Support validation of platform capabilities and integrations.
Contribute to performance, reliability, and maintainability improvements.
Support platform governance and integration standards.
Provide input into technical decisions and implementation strategies.

Technical skills

Must have

Proven experience as a Backend Engineer, Software Engineer, API Engineer, or similar role.
Strong experience delivering production-grade APIs and backend services.
Expertise in REST APIs and API lifecycle management.
Experience with integration patterns and system-to-system integrations.
Understanding of Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) architectures.
Knowledge of API-first and service-oriented architectures.
Experience with authentication and authorization, including OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and JWT.
Understanding of cloud-based and distributed architectures.
Experience with automated testing and quality practices.
Knowledge of monitoring, observability, and operational practices.
Minimum 5 years of experience with Java Development.
Minimum 5 years of experience with Spring Framework.
Minimum 5 years of experience with Web Services.
Minimum 5 years of experience with Object-Oriented development.
Minimum 5 years of experience with Software Testing and Quality Assurance.
Minimum 5 years of experience with IBM MQ Series / MQ.
Minimum 5 years of experience in an IBM environment.
Minimum 5 years of experience with development support tools such as JIRA or SVN.
Minimum 5 years of experience with design support tools such as SPARX.
Minimum 5 years of experience with Training & Coaching.
Good knowledge of MS Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Experience working in Agile environments.
French or Dutch mandatory, with at least one of both languages required.
English mandatory.
