Senior Enterprise Architect

Context

The Belgian and European energy landscape is undergoing major transformation, and the selected consultant will contribute to the development of a sustainable, green, and reliable energy infrastructure.

In the context of the Group IT organization, the Enterprise Architect will support the definition, governance, and continuous improvement of enterprise architecture practices. The role will involve close collaboration with business, IT, architecture, infrastructure, and platform teams to ensure that initiatives align with the enterprise architecture vision, standards, and roadmap.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the definition and continuous improvement of the architecture governance framework, including principles, standards, policies, reference architectures, and golden scenarios.
  • Define and support a clear Architecture Review Board decision workflow, including decision packs, traceability, and escalation paths.
  • Contribute to the implementation of a federated target operating model and ensure alignment with the digital platform guardrails.
  • Translate platform guardrails into practical guidance for local delivery teams.
  • Support the Head of IT Architecture in strategic studies, evaluations, and decision-making.
  • Coach and guide architecture roles across the organization.
  • Communicate the application strategy and related processes to business and IT stakeholders.
  • Collect and analyze business and IT gaps through surveys, in collaboration with business architecture.
  • Conduct cross-domain trade-off analyses using recognized methods such as ATAM and cost-benefit analyses such as CBAM.
  • Provide recommendations to maintain and evolve the application portfolio in collaboration with application owners and key stakeholders.
  • Maintain the enterprise architecture repository, including architecture decision records and compliance levels.
  • Validate architectural recommendations with senior business and IT management.
  • Manage the Architecture Vision Document and contribute to an enterprise-wide IT roadmap.
  • Ensure alignment of architecture processes with Project Portfolio Management and IT Service Management.
  • Perform Initiative Architecture Alignment Assessments at initiative kick-off and key delivery milestones.
  • Conduct periodic Architecture Compliance Reviews during delivery and escalate deviations where needed.
  • Help define and maintain enterprise data architecture standards, including modelling conventions, integration patterns, and governance principles.
  • Assess initiative-level data designs against enterprise standards.
  • Propose a realistic roadmap to improve architectural maturity, including priorities and maturity levels.

Technical skills

Must have

  • At least 10 years of experience in an Enterprise Architecture role.
  • Proven experience facilitating Architecture Review Board sessions.
  • Experience producing decision packs with traceability.
  • Strong autonomy and initiative.
  • Ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Results-oriented mindset.
  • Solid understanding of IT processes and methodologies.
  • Practical experience with industry standards such as ITIL, TOGAF, ArchiMate, and Domain-Driven Design.
  • Experience with cloud-native architecture patterns and platform governance.
  • Ability to work with guardrails, onboarding criteria, and reference architecture adoption.
  • Collaborative mindset, pragmatism, and ability to co-construct solutions with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to act as a link between business, IT, architecture, and infrastructure teams.
  • Ability to advocate and promote the adoption of reference architectures.
  • Familiarity with microservices and event-driven architecture.
  • Knowledge of Gartner architecture frameworks, such as TIME for Application Portfolio Management.
  • Experience with modelling tools such as Sparx Enterprise Architect, SAP LeanIX, or equivalent tools.
  • Strong collaboration skills and excellent presentation abilities.
  • Fluency in English for documentation, supplier interactions, and meetings.
  • For non-EU candidates: valid work permit allowing work in Belgium.
  • For non-EU candidates: valid residence permit confirming the right of residence in Belgium.

Should have

  • Experience in merger or acquisition contexts and related transformation journeys.
  • Hands-on experience designing and delivering IT solutions in an agile environment.
  • Knowledge of the Energy and Utilities sector.
  • Knowledge of French, Dutch, or German.

Nice to have

  • Experience working across multiple European locations.
  • Experience collaborating with multilingual teams.
  • Previous exposure to large-scale IT transformation programs.
  • Familiarity with enterprise-wide roadmap definition across initiatives, projects, and programs.
